Time Communications, an Aastra reseller based in Yorkshire, decided it was time to move to larger offices (March 2007) as they had outgrown their present site. The owners Jeff and Nigel, being studious Yorkshire men, were not only conscious of the high cost for office space in Leeds, but also of the very limited choice available. So they decided to move to Wakefield.
Like many businesses they were faced with the prospect of having to change telephone numbers. This meant advising all their customers of new numbers for sales and support, plus placing an expensive CNS or remote call forward.
What about number porting! As the Aastra Ascotel was one of the 1st systems in Europe to support SIP trunks. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. As SIP Trunking was a new frontier, Nigel (Technical Director) had a number of back-up plans.
The port went ahead without a hitch and with no suspension of service. The original plan was to provide Time's own CNA for the Leeds numbers, routing to an automated attendant on the system in Wakefield, stating "the number you are calling has change to... ".
To Times pleasant surprise the SIP trunks worked with no difference in the quality of the calls, using ISDN as a benchmark.
